Phantom Menace

Phantom Menace

A master of deception and spell thievery, the Phantom Menace[1] Spellthief exploits stolen magic and psionics to dismantle enemy spellcasters. All while remaining nearly impossible to pinpoint thanks to their Beguiler-familiar. By manipulating their opponent’s own powers against them, they become a terrifying anti-caster force, striking from the shadows.

  • Excellent anti-caster capabilities, stealing spells, spell effects, and psionics to neutralize magic-based threats.
  • Struggles against enemies who rely purely on physical combat, as its lower Strength and lack of direct melee power leave it vulnerable.
  • The Improved Familiar (Beguiler) allows for misdirection tactics—swapping places with your familiar and using its innate True Seeing makes you an elusive nightmare for enemy spellcasters.

Seductress

Combining the charm of a social infiltrator with the lethality of a sneak-attacking spell thief. The Seductress[2] Spellthief uses flirtation and enchantment on foes before striking them with a mix of attacks and stolen spells. This build is perfect for those who want a versatile face-focused character who can disable enemies with charm and finish them off in melee combat.

  • Excels in both social situations and combat, with a strong mix of sneak attack damage and spell-stealing utility.
  • Relies heavily on engaging foes at close range, making it vulnerable to high-damage melee opponents who can resist its charm abilities.
  • The combination of Pounce, Two-Weapon Fighting, and Sneak Attack allows for absurd burst damage, especially when stealing high-level spells mid-combat.
Seductress
Spellknife Spellthief

Spellknife

Wielding an array of telekinetically controlled weapons, the Spellknife[3] can fight from multiple ranges. All using stolen spells, telekinetic attacks, and powerful summoned devils to overwhelm foes. This build’s strength lies in its ability to disarm, steal weapons, and control the battlefield. All of this making it one of the most versatile mid-to-close-range warriors.

  • The ability to fight using multiple telekinetically wielded weapons allows for high adaptability and battlefield control.
  • Requires careful positioning and action economy management, as juggling spell-thievery, melee attacks, and telekinesis can be complex.
  • Permanently animated weapons combined with Telekinetic Wielder means you can appear unarmed while still attacking, catching foes completely off guard.

Spellsniper

A long-range spell thief, the Spellsniper[4] specializes in stealing magic and using spellwarp mechanics to turn area spells into deadly, single-target rays for pinpoint destruction. By combining rapid spellcasting with sneak attacks and psionic power theft, this build excels in magical duels and ranged combat.

  • Devastating single-target damage by converting stolen area spells into precision spell rays via Spellwarp Sniper.
  • Struggles against highly mobile or magic-resistant foes that can avoid or negate its ranged attacks.
  • Since you can steal Psionic Powers, you can target psionic enemies just as easily as arcane casters, making you a nightmare for anyone relying on supernatural abilities.
Spellsniper
Starfell

Starfell Adamantine Razorback

A monstrous force of nature, the Starfell Adamantine Razorback[5] is an adamantine-skinned, tentacle-wielding wereboar that combines Spellthief magic-stealing with Green-Star Adept’s alien resilience. This unholy fusion of lycanthropy, starmetal mutation, and spell theft creates a nearly indestructible melee juggernaut.

  • Extreme durability with DR/Adamantine, Fortification, and natural armor, making it almost immune to conventional weaponry.
  • Its reliance on natural attacks and close combat leaves it susceptible to battlefield control effects like Slow, Entangle, or flight-based enemies.
  • Mindsight + Telepathy gives you supernatural awareness of all creatures within range, ensuring that nothing can hide from your monstrous presence.

Monoclass

The young nobleman looked around the room as he entered. He turned and waved silently to the woman in the white coat behind him. The inside of the laboratory was empty.

“Well, our lead isn’t here it seems.” She said as she turned her head to see two small rodent-like creatures. The look on their eyes were, oddly intense.

-“I didn’t know spellcasters could have multiple familiars.” She continued, with a look over to the young man. She saw that he searched through a scattering of parchments atop a desk. Suddenly, he stopped caught paused by the comment.

“They can’t, my brother taught me that that link is special, so they usually can’t. Why?”

“Listen to the young man.” A squeaky voice said, which made the both of them jump. The two turned to see one of the two creatures standing taller than the other.

“I am your contact.” It continues in its ridiculous voice. “Please do not mind my wife, but before I answer any of your questions, answer me this: Why would a werewolf ally herself with a nobleman?”

Spellthiefs can forfeit some of their Sneak Attack damage to steal spells, spell-like abilities, ongoing spell effects, and even Energy Resistance. This makes them extremely potent anti-spellcasters. Add to that their feats that allow them to do the same but with Psionics, and you’ve got yourself a surprisingly potent class. The Beguiler race is a small pikachu looking race that has True Seeing. And with Improved Familiar you can have one as a familiar, making it extremely hard to pinpoint for spellcasters between you and your familiar.

As the young nobleman and the white coat lady next to him sat in the temple of Sharess, he kept his eyes covered with his hands.

“Why are the nuns here naked?” He asked, red as a tomato. The woman giving a small chuckle and shrugging.

“I wouldn’t know, but apparently, the Canoness wanted to see us after that whole deal with the cult of Mammon in the sewers.”

The doors to the Canoness offices opened and the young man rushed inside to get out of view of the many nude women.

“Welcome the two of you”. The elven woman within the chamber said with a gentle coo, the woman pulled her long elegant dress on.

“You will have to excuse me, our talk must be brief as I am to head out soon. I must assist a friend at St-Cuthbert’s temple.”

The young man let out a sigh of relief as she clothed herself.

“You had something to talk about?” He asked. The woman looking over at him and let out a small laugh.

“Why are you laughing?” Asked the woman in the white coat with a raised eyebrow. The Canoness smiled at her.

“Well, let’s just say you two should talk once you are back at the inn, but yes, I had something to talk about concerning that infernal cult you two busted.”

Spellknife

The woman with the white coat and the young nobleman entered the sewer temple. A figure stood at the entrance, silent & impartial to the approach.

“So you have come.” The figure said with a slight rumble, the feminine voice stoic and unbothered by the intrusion.

“So we have.” The young man unsheathed his sword, the intent evident as the figure straightened their stance.

-“Surrender.” He ordered. The hooded figure turned around, from her hips, three blades drawn of their own accord from their sheaths.

“I am afraid that’s impossible.” The figure replied simply, a grin on her face full of ill intent.

When you disarm opponents you can steal their weapons, when you sneak attack them you steal their spells and spell-like abilities, and as a Disciple of Mammon you can summon Bone and Ice Devils to flank your targets. Meaning that you are highly capable in melee, in mid ranged and in long ranged, while having a lot of skill points to make you a fantastic social character, scout, and overall skill-monkey. Yeah, this build might be one of the best in the Tier 4 so far. Between your skill-monkeying and your ability to go full Kreia, you are definitely up there power-wise.

4. Spellthief – Spellsniper – D&D 3.5 ( Spellsniper )

Spellsniper

As the titanic battle between the boar-like monstrosity and the werewolf raged, the nobleman was dealing with the beast’s master. He had already stolen his spell of flight, which forced him to cast his third and last fly spell of the day.

“You lot don’t know when to quit.” The nobleman mumbled to himself as he cast a disintegrate ray at the beast’s master. Who simply absorbed it into his hand. With a twinge of irritation he shot it back at the nobleman. Luckily, the nobleman had enough time to conjure a wall of force between them,. The wall did not last and shattered under the returned ray.

“How quaint, a spellthief truly is the worst.” he said, as he weighed his options.

You can also steal psionic powers, because stealing spells wasn’t enough, you also had to up the psionics.

Starfell Adamantine Razorback

As the nobleman cast one of his spells, wind buffeted around him as he lifted from the ground. He heard the growl, snarl and screech of the beast as the woman he was with swung her axes repeatedly. Both axes cleaving into its hide, the distinctive metallic noise resounded through the air with each heavy strike.

“A little help would be appreciated here.” The woman cried out, unable to hide the wounds she’d already sustained in the fight.

The greenish boar, with tentacles sprouting from it’s back, almost impaled her on its tusks, which forced her to dive out of the way.

“I know I know, hold on,” the man prepared another spell of power to give her the power of flight as well.

“What is that thing?” She asked, as she flew up to his side. On her face a grimace at she was unable to stop the onslaught of the beast.

“I have no idea”, The man replied, before panic set in as the thing started to fly as well!

“Oh this is just great. The damn thing can fly as well?” The woman hissed, and pushed the nobleman away from the beast as she rapidly shifted to her hybrid form.
