Strengths & Weaknesses
| Build Name | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|
| Rapier Adept | Great skirmisher with a crit range of 14-20. Can move freely across the battlefield. Equipment includes a rapier, a chain shirt, and a masterwork buckler, adding flexibility and defense. | Lacks diversity in attack types, mainly focused on crits. Might struggle with highly armored enemies who are not crit prone. |
| Musketeer[1] | Excellent tanking abilities due to class synergy. Nullifies power attacks, which is crucial against barbarians and some fighters. Equipment maximizes defensive capabilities without relying on bucklers or chain shirts, specially after becoming a Duelist. | Lower offensive capability compared to other builds. Dependency on specific feats for optimal performance may limit other areas. |
| Pirate Lord[2] | Strong intimidancer with high Sneak Attack. Utilizes sneak and intimidate strategies excellently, benefiting from feats like Dreadful Wrath and Improved Feint. Can eventually own a ship, adding mobility and living space. | Heavily dependent on intimidation and sneak attacks, might struggle against foes immune to fear or with keen senses to detect sneaking. |
| Platinum Knight[3] | Combines melee prowess with dragonist characteristics, having minor spellcasting abilities. The class synergy between Vassal of Bahamut and Swashbuckler offers gold benefits for better equipment like the platinum armor. | Lower strength score limits physical opponent challenges; reliance on class abilities may create weaknesses against specialized spellcasters. |
| Soul afire[4] | Unique range and whip focus allow attacks from a distance. The use of pyrokinesis gives versatile combat options, including causing damage to creatures immune to normal fire. | Relatively low constitution and standard elemental weaknesses can be exploited by opponents. Limited to whip weapon for maximum impact. |

Rapier Adept
Players who thrive on combat agility and accuracy are the target audience for the Rapier Adept build. It is excellent at moving gracefully across the battlefield and dealing opponents terrible blows with critical hits.
- It excels at quickly weakening enemies by utilizing a high crit range with effects like Weakening Critical.
- The build’s dependence on critical hits may cause issues while dealing with undead or other enemies that are resistant to critical hits.
- You can keep momentum and freedom in battles by using the Acrobatic Charge to traverse through challenging terrain or threatened squares without drawing assaults of opportunity.
Musketeer
The Musketeer[1] build combines agility with combat prowess, thriving on the Swashbuckler’s finesse and the Duelist’s precise strikes.
- Agile on the battlefield, the Musketeer[1] uses Weapon Finesse and rapid maneuvers to outmaneuver foes easily.
- With average Constitution, the Musketeer[1]’s endurance is limited during prolonged engagements where heavier defenses are needed.
- The Musketeer[1]’s ability to use Elusive Target offers a strategic advantage by turning opponents’ missed attacks into a helping hand.

Pirate Lord
The Pirate Lord[2] is a formidable character who uses a combination of the Swashbuckler, Rogue, and Scarlet Corsair classes to use psychological warfare and agility to destroy enemies. For those who aspire to be a swashbuckling master of intimidation and crafty fighting, this is the ideal option.
- The Pirate Lord[2] is an expert at controlling the battlefield; he uses abilities like Dreadful Wrath and Imperious Command to terrorize and paralyze opponents while launching lethal sneak attacks.
- Combat adaptability is limited, especially when dealing with undead and constructs, as the build mostly uses intimidation and sneak strikes, to which these enemies may be impervious.
- By stacking your Swashbuckler and Rogue levels for sneak attack growth with the Daring Outlaw feat, you can balance your damage output with a primary Rogue while still retaining exceptional combat skill.
Platinum Knight
Shining in armor made from dragon scales and endowed with Bahamut’s blessings, the Platinum Knight[3] is a dragonborn character who strikes a balance between offensive combat and light spellcasting. This build, which has Bahamut’s support, has a larger treasury that facilitates the acquisition of gear, making its charge attacks and defenses extremely strong.
- The Dragonborn’s great strength is the combination of strong defense from its Platinum Armor and quick mobility from skills like Acrobatic Charge, which enable the character to move fluidly in and out of battle while remaining safe.
- The main flaw is that character design flexibility is restricted and overall versatility in non-combat scenarios may be impacted due to the dependence on particular classes and feats for complete optimization.
- Investing in Use Magic Devices can leverage the wealth from Bahamut’s shared trove, enabling the use of powerful magical items that can adjust to varied combat and do it yourself situations.

Soul afire
The Soul afire[4] blends the agility of a Swashbuckler with the fiery power of a Pyrokineticist, wielding psionic whips of flame. It excels in theatrics of combat, delivering flamboyant strikes from a safe distance without sacrificing style.
- Its major strength is the ability to attack from 15 feet away with fiery whips that blend Swashbuckler finesse with Pyrokineticist havoc.
- A major weakness is its vulnerability to situations where fire is ineffective, such as against creatures immune to fire damage.
- A handy trick is using the Pyrokineticist’s ‘Heat Death’ ability to overwhelm even Fire Elementals by giving them a ‘heat stroke,’ a fun and thematic edge.
What makes the Rapier Adept Swashbuckler stand out in combat?
The Rapier Adept excels at landing critical strikes with a rapier. Their crit range is impressively wide, typically 14-20. This makes them lethal in battles, especially when skirmishing. Their equipment, including a chain shirt and masterwork buckler, adds flexibility and defense. However, they may struggle against highly armored foes that aren’t crit prone.
How does a Musketeer[1] Swashbuckler manage both offense and defense?
The Musketeer[1] shines primarily on defense. Their class synergy nullifies power attacks, which is crucial against powerful opponents. Despite lower offensive capabilities, their equipment maximizes defense without needing bucklers. They depend on specific feats for optimal performance. This focus may limit other areas but ensures they are sturdy tanks.
What are the key tactics of the Pirate Lord[2] Swashbuckler?
The Pirate Lord[2] relies heavily on intimidation and sneak attacks. They master strategies using feats like Dreadful Wrath and Improved Feint. This build can eventually own a ship, enhancing mobility. However, foes immune to fear or with keen senses can expose their weaknesses. Therefore, they need cunning strategies to remain effective.
Which scenarios are ideal for a Platinum Knight[3]’s Swashbuckler strengths?
Platinum Knights flourish in battles requiring a mix of melee and minor spellcasting. Their alliance with Vassal of Bahamut and Swashbuckler classes offers synergy. This provides gold benefits for superior gear like platinum armor. Yet, their lower strength can hinder them against physical challengers. They’re best suited against foes vulnerable to class abilities.
What is vital to consider when playing as a Soul afire[4] Swashbuckler?
Soul Afire[4] players should focus on range and whip tactics in battles. Their pyrokinesis offers versatile attacks, damaging even fire immune creatures. However, low constitution and elemental weaknesses can be exploited by cunning foes. For maximum impact, sticking to whip weaponry is essential. Wise opponents might limit them by targeting these vulnerabilities.

Musketeer
The young man was exhausted, frustrated, and wet from the convenient downpour that had extinguished the house fire. He had defeated the arsonist, but he self-immolated rather than divulge the identity of his patron.
He let out a sigh. Well, he was alive at least. That had to count for something.
–Look at my little brother, so anguished because you were unable to truly win this battle.
The young man jumped. He turned and from the shadow came his older brother, who, as the heir of the family, studied magic. Or at least, was supposed to, but he was usually too preoccupied putting his nose in the underworld’s business.
–No. I am frustrated at his lack of chivalry. Doesn’t anyone respect the rules of duel anymore?
His brother shrugged as he conjured a small flame to light the cigarette he was rolling, away from the downpour.
–Oh, not too many still have that archaic mentality nowadays, dear brother.
Not that it being a bad thing mind you, he added rapidly as he saw his brother’s face get angrier. It’s just that time changes and people don’t have your heart to keep these ideals.
–Why are YOU here anyway? Investigating the arson too?
The young man looked at his brother, who suddenly took a more concerned glare.
–In a way, I suppose. Come, I have two women I’d like to introduce you, and perhaps an intrigue worth your blade young brother…

Swashbuckler tank! You are still extraordinarily agile and capable of zigzagging the battlefield, but you can also make sure your enemies stay planted right next to you, where you can bring them the hurting. The fact that you can nullify power attacks means suddenly that barbarians and other fighters must be much more careful if they want to hit you at all.

Pirate Lord
The pirates ship crashed into the Dragonfly with enough force and sent both crews into the air. The young nobleman, pulled his rapier and jumped several feet above the water. He landed amidst the pirates who massed on the edges of their ship. The man was followed by the expert pirate hunting crew. The battle had been enjoined!
As the battle raged, the pirates slowly were being pushed back. The young nobleman noticed one of the pirates had mounted a rope and swung down on them. He barely avoided his head being cut off clean by the madman’s cutlass. With a twirl on his heel, he turned to face his enemy. An enemy – garbed in his blood-red coat – was the scourge of the seas: the dreaded pirate lord.
As their blades clashed, fear clasped its grip on the young man’s heart.

Everything’s better with Pirates. This is just a law of reality. Turns out the Scarlet Corsair is an extremely good PrC. You can Feint to add sneak attacks, and you can reduce your Sneak Attack(which is almost as high as a monoclass rogue) to automatically apply the shaken condition on enemies you hit. Add all your intimidating feats and you are an incredible intimidancer.

Platinum Knight
As the ship anchored at the port, the young nobleman jumped on the dock. Away, amongst the mass of sailors and fishermen that busied themselves with their trade, a tall dragonborn, clad in an armor made of platinum, waved at him.
–“It’s been too long young lad!” the massive draconic man said in his usual decontracted voice “How’s the old man?”
-“Still kicking my ass, as usual,” answered the young man as they shook hands.
-“How are things on your end?” The young man continued.
-“Well, we have an arson problem. Thought that problem was over when the old man and I dealt with the cult of Tiamat a few years ago. But I guess things are never really over isn’t it? Come, I’ll show you around.”

Soul afire
The lash of fire clacked an inch over the head of the young nobleman as he dodged under the fiery strike. He had found the arsonist, but was surprised to find a man that wasn’t a cultist of Tiamat.
-“Why are you doing this? What master do you serve?” Yelled the young man at the deranged man, who was surrounded by flames.
-“Defeat me, and I might answer your question”, replied the man, before lashing again at the young man.
