Immovable Fortress

Immovable Fortress

Attack again lass, but this time, swiftly.”

The old dwarf was studying the young human girl with a smile. Her pose was excellent. Furthermore, her arm was stronger than it was when he first found her that fateful night so long ago.

She charged him, but he deflected her sword with his axe. Strong, but the heart of a child still. He frowned at the thought.

Later that evening, as she was making the both of them tea, he told her a story from his youth. As she sat on the floor near the fireplace, her eyes full of stars at the stories of dragons, and evil undead armies. The stories of her adoptive father who, unmovable as a wall, would protect the innocents against hordes of enemies.

Will I one day be able to protect people’s fathers?

The old dwarf sighed, and replied with a sad smile:

Your heart will bleed a thousand times, before you are truly able to protect only one child.

Her confusion was noticeable, and the old dwarf’s heart shrank at the thought of her pure heart having to endure the agony of failing to save a life.

Perhaps, he thought, that is why he himself took up the shield. So that never again anyone he loved would die while he could do something about it.

Skills

You could always take the ride skill and ride a dire boar in battle?

Equipment

A Dwarven Waraxe, a Tower Shield, the best armor you can afford

Goal

You are an absolute living, breathing, walking fortress. You have nearly 20hp at first level and it only gets crazier from there. Your AC is through the roof, your saves are solid, and as a Dwarven Defender, you can more or less literally become the immovable object.

Your main strategy is to get in the best position on the battlefield (even if it means bullrushing an enemy standing there) and then activate your Defensive Stance. From there, start hacking up enemies. With your high BAB and small Dex bonus early on, you can also use a crossbow. I recommend walking around with your crossbow out, starting the encounter by shooting someone, then dropping it and using your move action to get in position. From there draw your dwarven waraxe and shield as part of your movement.
