1. Shugenja – Earth Magician – D&D 3.5 ( Earth Magician )

Earth Magician

The final master to arrive represented the Earth Temple, and he emerged from the courtyard itself. He rose from beneath the stone itself before he looked around and gave a small bow of acknowledgement. Clad in plate armor, he was a man covered in mineral residues, skin akin to the soft, granulate deposits of limestone. He was the one that had managed to imprison the corrupted master of void deep in the planet’s core. Reputed as a powerful wandering exorcist, he walked with power and all the acolytes bowed in respect as he arrived.

Finally, the council could convene.

Goal

You are one with the earth. You can see and glide through rock as though they were water, your spells are a powerful mix of buffs, wide area damage and control such as the Earthquake, or Imprison spells. You can turn undead better than most clerics, with additional bonuses against evil outsiders. You would easily fit in the top Tiers, despite what naysayers would say about Shugenjas being weak.

As he brushed the snow from his shoulders, the man in crimson robes looked down on the village from the temple’s stairs. The temple was situated high on the hill it an looked down upon the structures below. It was isolated in the woods, which meant privacy and a beautiful view. He could hear the villagers as they worked on their daily affairs from there, and this helped him quiet his inner flame. Winter had come almost as a surprise, after the destruction of the Free City.

He had convened the Elemental Council. All four temples would be represented.

He let out a sigh. All four temples remaining that is save the Void Temple. They’d discovered it had been corrupted by servants of the Dark Empire and were forced to purge it in an elemental maelstrom. Razed until nothing remained, it was cataclysmic and the regrets clung to the Master of Fire like soot.

Still, it had to be done, he thought, as the snow covered the world in a white blanket, washing away the sins of the living under its immaculateness…

We had only seen two primary spellcasters until now, but from here on out we will begin seeing more and more of them. The reason the previous two were rated so low was because they supposedly focused on a single type of spells, both considered bad by the Tier List. This changes now with the Shugenja, who is a spontaneous divine spellcaster based on elemental themes. This first build is a Fire Shugenja, who can act both as a strong blaster and as a buffer/battlefield controller. Being able to apply metamagic on the fly is amazing and with Improved Counterspell+Dispel Magic, you are more than capable of disrupting enemy spellcasters with ease.

3. Shugenja – Storm Walker – D&D 3.5 ( Storm Walker )

Storm Walker

The first master to arrive at the Temple was the master of Air, and he arrived with a storm. He walked the winds above the mountains and down through the trees atop the hill. Thunder followed him as he landed on the temple’s grounds. The Master of Air leaned on his javelin, and crackled with lightning.

He was an odd one, thought the Fire master when they hugged each other, long time friends as they had been. Usually Air Shugenjas were all about Illusions and subtlety, but the Master was a walking thunderstorm. In the battle against the Void he had proven himself capable of as much, if not more, destructive than some of the strongest Fire Shugenjas.

Yeah, you are the warrior shugenja, capable in melee with your spear and at a distance both with your storm enhanced javelins and with your spells, capable of heavy blasting as well as illusions and battlefield control for great effect, especially with your mastery of both Electricity and Sonic damage spells, you are a surprisingly strong damage dealer, supported with invisibility and other illusion spells, fog spells and other such spells that turn the tide of battle slowly but inexorably in your favor. Add full plate armor and shields for great defense and you are definitely a surprisingly effective spellcaster.

Void Disciple

As the council deliberated whether they should intervene in the war against the Dark Army, the Water Master looked at one of the darkened corners of the room. His gaze was intense, and his eyes furrowed. The Fire Master noticed, rose and spoke.

“Fellow masters, please pardon the abruptness, but it seems we need once again to unify our strengths.”

He turned and unleashed a true firestorm in the corner, which melted the stone wall into thick liquid. His flames, as hot as the breath of the greatest of wyrms of legend, illuminated a figure in the conflagration. This man was oddly unharmed by the unleashed energies.

“A shame, the intruder said with a cold voice. I had hoped you wouldn’t notice me quite yet.”

As the masters stood in shock, they recognized the man who once stood as the Master of Void. Now a terrible Maho-Tsukai, who forsook the ways of the elements for the dark powers of blood magic.

“Unfortunately”. He continued, raising a hand crackling with both arcane and divine energy. “I cannot let any of you live.”

You are a Maho-Tsukai, you can cast spells with a blood component, and can apply Metamagic without raising the spell’s level by taking Con damage(which heals extremely rapidly by Binding Naberius via the Bind Vestige feat). You can also cast 9th level spells both arcane and divine from the Cleric’s spell list and the Maho-Tsukai list. By virtue of being able to Rebuke undead, you can also persist spells via Divine Metamagic, allowing you to have 24h long effects such as Divine Power, giving you a fighter’s BAB and a high strength, plus bonus HP. You are a very, very powerful spellcaster.

The second master that arrived came with the morning mist. He was unheard and unseen until suddenly he stood there in the middle of the temple’s courtyard. His wet clothes smelling of the sea, and his demeanor was calm as the stillness of a lagoon. As he was properly greeted and shown to his apartments, he never spoke a word, except a single sentence when the Fire master came to greet him.

“Beware the Void”.

Both had stared at each other, then the Fire master nodded.

“I would send someone to tell you when the council is to meet, but you’re already aware it seems.” To which, the Water master could only offer a modest smile.
