The Chronicler

The Chronicler

The man tried desperately to not make any noise as he walked on the old, creaky and rotten floorboards.

The middle-aged man had come to this supposed haunted manor to investigate an old legend which focused the old stone chapel of the place. It was said that when the moon was full and her light struck the stained glass windows, an apparition would appear.

What he did not expect was other visitors than himself.

As he explored, he heard some sort of voice which emanated from the first floor underneath him. He tried to hide and listen to what was being said.

Academic Priest is an absolute must have for any Archivist. It allows you to base your bonus spells per day on Intelligence rather than Wisdom, making our Archivist solely reliant on Intelligence for spellcasting. Knowledge Devotion pairs ridiculously well with your Dark Knowledge ability and Draconic Archivist lets you use said Dark Knowledge on Dragons and Constructs which is ridiculously good in the long term.

Skill Focus(Concentration) is far better than Combat Casting as it is always on +3 on your checks, and Improved Initiative lets you play first more often, meaning setting up buffs, debuffs and battlefield control before the enemy gets to play.

We round it all up with a few choice metamagic feats such as Extend Spell, Quicken Spell and Heighten Spell for those situations that require just such fine tuning.

Equipment

Begin play with a Chain Shirt and a Light Crossbow, a Longspear and a Spiked Gauntlet on top of your Prayerbook and various components. In the long term, invest in a Vest of Resistance, a Headband of Intellect and a Mithral Full Plate.

Final Thoughts

Archivists are easily on par with Wizards for raw spellcasting flexibility due to the sheer immensity of the spells they can copy in their Prayerbooks. See, Archivists can learn any spell from any divine spellcasting scroll or spellcaster’s list.

This means that while the free spells they get each level comes from the Cleric spell list, they are by no means whatsoever limited to that list. Find a druidic scroll of Shapechange? Transcribe it in your Prayerbook and you can now cast it. This alone is game breaking powerful. I have not even touched on the Archivist’s abilities yet.

Dark Knowledge lets you do a Knowledge check as a move action to buff your entire party. More damage, attack bonus, AC, or even debuff said creatures.

Combine this with your Knowledge Devotion for self-buffing and our various metamagics and we are easily one of the most versatile and useful characters to have around.
